MSc in Neurotechnology, awarded with Distinction: machine learning and neural computation, brain–machine interfaces, statistics and data analysis, human neuromechanical control and learning, systems physiology, and biomedical imaging. From December 2018, an associate researcher in the Brain & Behaviour Lab.

It was a whole-life decision rather than a career one. I had never left California; London made it possible to do frontier neurotech, play first-team soccer, and live abroad at the same time. The first fork where curiosity and deliberate strategy pointed in the same direction.

The dissertation built an embodied virtual-reality platform integrating motion capture, VR, and EEG to study real-world motor learning. It was published in PLOS ONE in 2021 and remains the basis for ongoing research at Imperial.

This is also where the belief crystallised. Understanding the brain requires good data, and there was no good non-invasive, real-world way to get it — EEG is noisy and confined to artificial experimental tasks. That settled the PhD-versus-industry question: the real world was the interesting problem, and Kernel was attacking it at the source.
